Syria and Lebanon Sign Security, Terrorism Pact

Lebanon on Saturday approved a security pact with Syria, with a joint committee that will “coordinate efforts to battle terrorism and crime.” The agreement is seen as a further normalization of relations since the two countries agreed to diplomatic ties last August.

Meanwhile, a Lebanese newspaper said Saturday that Syria had been behind rioting and fighting in Lebanon last year. 400 Lebanese, including 168 soldiers, were killed in the rioting at Nahr al-Bared near Tripoli in summer 2007.
